The original owners of the property built the main house in 1924 and the outbuildings soon afterwards. They had a large vegetable garden, orchard, chickens and livestock.
Because it had been vacant for many years when we purchased it in 2009, the landscaping was non existent. Moving from a home with pre existing landscape, I had no idea where to begin with my blank slate.
The first year I bought and planted shrubs, flowers, trees, ground over, etc..I was really disappointed when 90% of them died that winter and didn’t come back in the spring.
Determined not to let that happen again, I read every book I could find on landscaping, then enrolled in classes to complete my education.
Within a year I became a Tarrant County Master Gardner and then a Citizen Forester the following year. I now spend the majority of my time in my own garden or helping others plan theirs.
I have learned a lot from trial and error...lots of error, and I really enjoy helping others avoid the mistakes I have made.

As strange as it sounds, we say the Venue actually created itself. Our initial plan was to use the outbuildings, garden and grounds for our big family gatherings.
We created a space to celebrate birthdays, holidays and major life events with our large family...as well as those who didn’t have family to celebrate with.
When the Garden was established, our son and daughter-in-law decided to get married under the Pecan tree.
That night several wedding guests inquired about hosting events in our backyard.
By the end of the evening we had two weddings and a birthday party scheduled.
I’m sure most business come into existence intentionally. I can’t say the same about ours, and I would use the term “business” very loosely.
Most businesses have some sort of advertising or at least a sign out front, but the majority of people pass by ours and don’t even know we exist.
We have hosted numerous weddings, birthdays, memorials and showers since the first wedding in 2014. We have also welcomed film crews to Lone Star to shoot my father, Barry Corbin, for Good Morning Texas and various photo sessions and interviews.
The people who hold events here become family to us...and our "family" grows every year!
We are active in our community and have held neighborhood meetings, rotary recruitments, Boys and Girls club functions, holiday coat drives, Veteran memorials, garden club meetings and Christmas photos with Santa.
Because this is our home, and the “Venue” is actually in our backyard, we only host a few select events per month. This gives us the rest of the month to work in the garden, play with our Mastiffs and spend time with our grandchildren.
